Improvisation ensemble Sahul Sakti warmly invites you to join us at the Creature Bar on Saturday 18 July 2026!

Our performance marks World Listening Day. Created by the World Listening Project, this day is about celebrating the listening practices of the world and the ecology of its acoustic environments. We will consider the 2026 theme of ‘treating listening as a way of knowing and relating to the world around us, drawing attention to sonic environments as sites of meaning, memory, and care.’

We are honoured to have Rayhan Sudrajat (Indo/Aus) and Unspoken Rule join us!

About Sahul Sakti:

Sahul Sakti is an improvisation ensemble who transports listeners around the world, across sonic worlds, across creative boundaries. We draw on our post-classical, Brazilian, Asia-Pacific, jazz, electronica, folk, and experimental music influences to create a sound that is rooted in friendship, imagination, and a deep exploration of acoustic possibilities.

Our music is psychedelic, atmospheric, jazz-inflected, with hints of electronica, folk, music from different parts of the world, and our own unique irresistible global beat that will draw you in.

Sahul Saktians are: Huich Goh (violin), Michel Honegger (gendang, percussion, silat), Rana Mitra (surdo, pandeiro, cajon), Henry Smithers (electric bass), Paul Whitwood (drums), Inder Singh (samples).

About Rayhan Sudrajat

Rayhan Sudrajat is an ethnomusicologist, modular synthesist, and PhD researcher at the University of Melbourne whose work moves between academic research, cultural inquiry, and live performance. His practice explores sound as a medium of memory, migration, and belonging, drawing from Southeast Asian musical traditions, fieldwork experiences, voice, sape, and modular synthesis. Situated at the intersection of Indonesia, diaspora, and experimental sound, his performances create immersive listening environments where electronic textures, traditional sonic knowledge, and personal histories meet across past and present, homeland and elsewhere.
